The Czech Conch Collectors Club was founded in 1995. In the preceding years, under the communist government, founding of any club or society out of official interest of state was almost impossible because of the difficult registration procedure. Lacking an organized way of communication, collectors had it hard to obtain any nice marine material, and if so, rarely enough for exchange. While living in an inland country, the only seaside permitted to be visited were the coasts of Black or Baltic Seas, not very abundant in nice and colourful shells. After the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 it finally got possible to visit those seas dreamed of before, as well as collector meetings all over Europe. Within five years, membership for the first shell collector club in East Europe was formed. Despite of its short existence, club successfully organized ten international shell shows and forty exchange meetings for its members from the Czech and Slovak Republics. The club has about 200 members and it issues club bulletin VOLUTA four times a year. Our aim is to improve information on the shell world. There are also members interested in fossil and land snails or molluscs on postal stamps. We would like to establish contacts with your club in order to exchange any information regarding our mutual interest. Current president of the CCCC is Mr. Jaroslav Derka. |
